Link baiting is one of the often used methods to promote a site or a blog. When baiting links the goal is to make people talk about your site, and entice them to place a link for your site. A simple example would be, "So you know what link baiting is? Prove it and win a $1000 contract...."

Another way is to expose a story, but make sure that the story bears truth. Failing to write a true story will erode your credibility and future possibility of linking your site again.

Likewise, you could also choose to write some contrary articles. Say for example, if lot of people are saying that "banners work very well to promote a site", you could contradict the popular opinion by writing an article saying, "Why banners don't work very well to promote a site".

Similarly attacking someone personal opinion could also do very well for link-baiting. I suggest that people use caution when adopting this technique and also use them within reason.

Link baiting when used properly can be an effective tool to promote your site or your blog in your niche.
